Three art powerhouses take centre stage at Artworks this Theatre Festival weekend with the group show “3,” opening Thursday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m.

Mixed media artists Sheila Norgate, Tammy Hudgeon and Grant Leier, all nationally exhibited artists, are excited to be together under one roof.

“I am thrilled to be in this exhibition with Sheila and Grant!” said Tammy. “I am grateful to have been immensely inspired and mentored by each of them, in very different ways, at various times over the past decade, and they are both wickedly funny, groovy friends! The wild spirit will most certainly be in attendance during this show!”

“Exhibiting with Tammy and Sheila at Gabriola Artworks is an honour,” said Grant, award-winning artist. “I have followed their work for decades and we have many parallels in what we create.... This exhibition will be a celebration of colour and energy.”

Remarked Sheila, “This show represents a sort of ‘coming out’ for me: not as a lesbian (the horses are long gone from that barn); not as a dog/bird lover (also an empty barn); but as a painter willing to throw her hat into a hitherto unexplored ring – the human figure. You could count on one hand the number of times I have painted the figure. So this latest body of work is quite a departure, and one which I am excited to share here on Gabriola.

“As for showing on Gabriola,” added Sheila, “at Artworks, with two of my favorite artists and all-round terrific people, it would seem that I keep only the finest of company.”

“3” runs through to Sept. 4. Artworks is open until midnight Thursday, Friday and Saturday Aug. 15-17 during the Theatre Festival.
