9th Annual Fall Fair this Sunday

Gabriola Commons

Tuesday, September 9 2014

The Gabriola Commons will be hosting the 9th Annual Fall Fair this Sunday, September 14, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and anyone entering a competition should keep in mind that entries are to be at the Commons between 8:30 a.m. and 9:55 a.m.

This year’s fair will feature agricultural competitions, musical entertainment, fuzzy and friendly animals, the return of Taste of Gabriola and the GIRO fashion show, the ever exciting squash race, information booths from our local farmers and community organizations, and kicking it all off, the Ken Capon Memorial Marching Band.

If you have critters big, small, furry or feathered to enter in the competitions or you are willing to share them with the community for a day;

If you are interested in collaborating with other farmers on a family farming themed booth; (We are hoping to pick up on the International Year of Family Farming and do something Gabriola-oriented.)

If you are involved with a community group or farming-related activity and want to have an information or demonstration booth at the fair;

If you are interested in helping out with some aspect of the fair or have any questions...please contact Rebecca Furnell at furnellr@gmail.com.

This year we’ll be holding the agricultural competitions in the goat barn and we’d like to incorporate any suggestions you might have to make it more exciting, more relevant or more fun. The broad categories include:

• Flowers • Vegetables, Fruits and Nuts • Home Arts (baking, preserves and crafts) • Small Animals and Poultry • and of course, the Scarecrow or Garden Sculpture.

The final version of the entry form is out and available at gabriolacommons.ca or at the Gabriola Commons, so get in touch with your ideas soon.

Contact Judith at rouxmackay@shaw.ca or 247-9948 for other ways of getting a copy of the categories.

For anyone interested in taking part (on stage or behind) in the GIRO fashion show, Dar Yuile at 247-8849 will be happy to hear from you.

Start considering your biggest, most fabulous and most impressive produce item, or most delicious and most beautiful home crafts for the agricultural competitions.

We can’t wait to see you all at the fair!
