After the success and popularity of their 2015 al fresco reading of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Gabriola Players was thrilled when Garry Davey agreed to help them make “Bard by the Bay” an annual event.

This year Garry will be tackling Shakespeare’s much-loved Twelfth Night. He will be leading a five-week workshop, beginning on Sunday, June 5, and culminating with staged readings of the play on July 8, 9 and 10.

If the thought of attempting Shakespeare leaves you feeling clay-brained and flap-mouthed, fear not! None of the thirteen actors who leapt into A Midsummer Night’s Dream had ever performed Shakespeare before and everyone had an absolute blast.

Here’s what one of the dreamers had to say afterwards: “As a newbie, I was concerned lest my lack of honed skills might take away from the efforts of the more veteran actors, but everyone was so helpful and encouraging. Garry in particular inspired me with confidence and challenged me beyond what I thought I could do. I couldn’t have been more delighted with the experience.”

And, from another dream team member: “This was one of the most richly enjoyable experiences I’ve had with Gabriola Players. The opportunity to learn about playing Shakespeare’s text with such excellent support and encouragement was amazing. The ensemble became like a big happy family and I think it showed in our performances. Such fun!”

Interested? You can pre-register by sending an email to gabriolaplayers@gmail.com. Or just turn up at the Rollo Centre on Sunday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m. and start brushing up on your Shakespeare!

The workshop is free for Gabriola Players members. There is a $15 fee for non-members.
