Welcome to Claire Uhlick, The Haven/Gabriola Arts Council Artist in Residence for 2014. Uhlick was selected to be one of two artists in residence with Brooke Leifso in 2013 but was unfortunately not able to come as her mother passed away at that time. As part of The Haven’s 30th Anniversary year in 2013, the residency was offered to emerging artists aged 30 and under.

Uhlick is a visual artist from Edmonton, Alberta. She studied fine arts at MacEwan University before finishing a BFA at the University of Alberta in 2009.

Since then, she has continued with a working studio practice in Edmonton where she has completed two permanent public art commissions, Kinein (2008), for the University of Alberta, and Through the Tides (2011), for the City of St. Albert. Claire has had the opportunity to exhibit her paintings, installations and jewelry both nationally and internationally, and in solo and group shows.

In a post on The Haven’s Shen blog, Uhlick writes: “I’m very excited to have focused studio time and a chance to break free from my day-to-day routines. I’m also looking forward to immersing myself in the vibrant island community … I am thrilled to be coming to The Haven, and anticipating a productive time in such an inspiring place!”
