Gabriola Commons’ popular “Dinner at My Place” fundraiser is now in full swing.
Sharon Pattison’s Organic Vegetarian dinner on April 6 set the tone.
On the 14th, two menus drew full houses. Mexican Vegetarian fine dining brought islanders to Jinny Hayes’ home and French Canadian family favourites chez Raymond Tremblay and Heide Brown revived happy memories of their dinner two years ago.
“Make sure you tell everyone that all the dinners are about community and making great new friends, as much as the wonderful food,” Raymond said.
Those who haven’t yet booked for upcoming dates must move quickly since a few places remain at $30 a seat. Host and event organizer Ulrike Porat has just one seat left at her table of Deep South delectations on April 20, and a few more seats for her second dinner of authentic “East Indian” cuisine on May 18.
On the 27th, Jenni Gehlbach and Mary Gillis followup on their 2010 Middle East Feast with a culinary trip along the Mediterranean.
They offer “wonderful dishes” from Italy, Greece, France and Sicily.
May 2 delivers an intriguing menu for those with food allergies. Maureen Karagianis, an allergy sufferer herself, invites others with allergies to contact her when booking a place so she can plan her menu according to individual needs.
More hosts and guests can still participate up until the end of May, so if you are interested in doing your thing for the Commons, phone Ulrike at 250-247-9672 and do check
