Determine the future of GERTIE

Options for the future of the GERTIE bus are to be discussed on February 28 upstairs at the Commons, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The table above provides a list of four options for the future of Gabriola’s community bus once the trial period ends in June of 2016.

They include, from left to right, a model similar to the existing service with complete control on Gabriola; a Gabriola-style BC Transit service with some of the control handed over to BC Transit; a Salt Spring-style BC Transit service with a little more of the control handed over; and finally, an RDN Transit model with most of the decisions being made in Nanaimo.

Another option, not listed here, would be to create a fare-free bus system, although that would require greater taxpayer support.

These options will be part of the discussion at the meeting this coming Saturday. The GERTIE committee really wants to know what you think. You can get to the Commons on the regular Saturday midday service, and there will be a special bus to take you home – no charge.

Refreshments will be available.
