Food Forum

Wednesday, February 13 2019

Everyone is invited to attend the Gabriola’s Food Forum on Sat. Feb. 16, at the Community Hall.

UPDATE: The Food Forum will go ahead as scheduled, as volunteers will have the Community Hall ready for the event by this Saturday.

This annual winter event showcases Gabriolan food producers. There will be some produce for sale by local farmers as well as a variety of fresh, locally grown, edible sprouts.

Although we are experiencing real winter cold now, our growing season is not that far away. With this in mind, Sal will be there with Sweet Rock Farm seeds for sale.

Some of this year’s Food Forum participants from Gabriola are: the Master Gardeners, Farmer John talking about mushrooms, the Commons where you can sign up for a garden plot, and the Vegeteers who share their enthusiasm about vegetarian and vegan diets by bringing along their favourite cookbooks for sale.

Once again, New Society Publishers will be selling their books related to gardening, composting, raising poultry and other food production issues.

Over the years, the Food Forum has been a lively information-sharing venue. It gets us in the mood for the upcoming planting season, connecting us to the soil yet again, and reminding us to support our local food producers.

The forum starts at noon and goes until 3:00 p.m. Admission is by donation to pay for the rental of the community hall.
