Gabriola Theatre Festival

Monday, July 23 2012

I have always thought the Gabriola Theatre Festival was pretty spectacular, even if I do say so myself, being on the committee and all. But by the fourth annual event, you’d tend to think a little ‘same same’ might have crept in. Wrong! This summer’s theatre program promises to be the strongest yet, with two iconic shows we’ve been trying to land for, well, four years.
To get them both in one program, plus all the goodness in between, plus the ‘bliss and blast’ of a Mardi Gras theme with its Illuminaughty Trashion Show (let your imagination reign), and all that dazzle raining down on the Outdoor Stage and Kids Corner and Street Art and the night life – it’s unbelievable and it just gets better.
I remember last year a couple with their three teenagers arrived on the island on the Friday afternoon of the festival for what I can only assume was going to be a week of camping. They stood in front of the festival kiosk in the mall with their mouths hanging open and kept repeating the words: “You mean to say all this is ...?” I think they went to everything and stayed an extra week to recuperate! So set aside some recoup time because this year’s Theatre Festival is really going to sock it to ya. Have a blast of a weekend Gabriola!
Get your tickets early! Visit for more information and tickets. You can also buy tickets at Artworks or visit the festival kiosk in the mall Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and starting July 26, every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
