Gabriola Garden Club

Tuesday, October 25 2016

In 1991, a dedicated group of Gabriola gardeners gathered together to establish the Gabriola Garden Club (GGC) with the following aims: to educate members; to share garden expertise and ideas; and to enjoy social sharing of gardens. For twenty-five years the GGC has held regular monthly meetings where members are introduced to new plants, garden equipment, relevant books and magazines, “what to do in the garden”, and guest speakers. Members volunteer to open their gardens to other members during the summer months to share knowledge and experience. Special projects have included planting daffodils along the roadways of Gabriola, assisting the Gabriola Museum with the native plant garden, annual plant exchanges and June broom busting. This past summer the Club hosted it’s first “Grow and Show” Garden Show.

On Friday, October 28th, 7-9 pm at the Community Hall, the Club is celebrating this milestone with guest speaker, humorist, gardener, author and environmental activist Des Kennedy. The Denman Island native will be sharing his thoughts on the “particular delights of gardens and garden clubs”.

There will be displays recalling Gabriola Garden Club events over the years, the history of the Club, a meet and greet for former, current and future members, refreshments, and door prizes.

All are welcome to attend, whether or not you have a green thumb! Tickets are $5 for members, $15 for non-members and will be available at the door, or by phone to Claudia at 250-247-0076.
