Do you have an old hooked rug that has been passed down in the family? Or an heirloom Grenfell or Cheticamp mat in your collection? If so, the Gabriola Hookers would like to know. We will be hosting a gala Day of Hooking at the Commons on Saturday, August 8, and as part of the activities plan to have a display of heritage rugs. If you would be willing to lend your treasured mat for the day, please contact Heather Cameron at 325-9003 or heather@truestitches.net.

Hooking enthusiasts from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands will be flocking to Gabriola for the daylong event.

Beginner to advanced hookers can register by contacting Maia Levine at maial@shaw.ca. Cost is $10 for the day and includes tea, coffee and goodies. The public is welcome to attend the free Rug Hooked Art Show and Sale in the afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Rug hooking is a craft that is very easy to learn, fun to do and a beautiful way to give new life to old clothing and materials. As Gabriola artist and hooker Heide Brown says, “It’s the ultimate in recycling!”
