The Gabriola Arts Council is offering—through their Healing Power of Arts program—another session of the popular Intentional Aging: Exploring the Path from Senior to Elder. Maggie Mooney, Registered Clinical Counsellor and Narrative Therapist, and Kayte Summers, Registered Drama Therapist are facilitating this eight-week program starting January 16th.

Participants in the program are guided through a “Tree of Life” process that offers opportunities to explore and share life stories and the role and place of Elders in our families and communities.

For Elders, it is not always clear or easy to find our place of value as we age. Working together in this program, we create our own community—a circle of supportive connection which can hold the inevitable hurts of our life journey while also celebrating the learning which comes from them. We will consider our hopes and dreams for the future as well as our legacy—how we would like to be remembered.

One former participant said, “I see myself in a more positive light and view my age as the asset that it is.” Another said: “Listen, Listen, Listen … by doing this I truly hear what it is to be human and a senior. This has been a powerful, joyful, fulfilling experience.”

Through the support of the Gabriola Arts Council and their funders, the program is offered for free. Advance registration is required. We ask for your engaged participation and your commitment to the group.
