Kerplunks launching fourth album this coming weekend

Press Release

Tuesday, June 9 2015

The Kerplunks are pleased to announce the release of their fourth studio album, “Pants & Mammals.” Fourteen songs of pure fun and imagination, “Pants & Mammals” is sure to satisfy the most discerning family music lovers. The band explores many themes in the science realm along with popular family themes like reading at the library, starting a band, and cake for breakfast - just the right hint of education without going overboard. Always high-quality sound and real instruments, The Kerplunks have been a stand-out band in the family genre since 2007. To celebrate, they are planning a CD Release weekend June 13 and 14 in Nanaimo and on Gabriola.

“We can’t wait to share these new songs,” says Dinah D, upright bassist and vocalist for the group. “It’s been four years since we released a new CD.” About time? You bet!

“Our little fans have gotten a bit bigger and are still asking for new music,” Dinah continues. “And we know of a whole bunch of new fans who have arrived on the scene since our last album launch in 2010. Maybe even some little brothers and sisters.” One of the funnest parts of releasing new material and garnering new fans is the fact that they, in turn, discover the band’s previous music collection. “Our biggest fans have been there since before they were born,” exclaims Dinah.

When asked where they hope “Pants & Mammals” will take them, Tina Jones, horn player and vocalist says, “We plan on hitting some of our favourite festivals and community events this summer.” These include the Belfry Theatre in Victoria on June 25 and the Tlell Fall Fair on Haida Gwaii in August. The group has taken their award-winning show to the far reaches of Canada, from sea to sea to sea. In 2014 alone, they swam in the Atlantic Ocean off PEI, having been invited to celebrate 150 years of Confederation. Releasing a new recording is the perfect way to get noticed; each of their previous three albums have been recognized with JUNO Award nominations along with Parents’ Choice Awards. “When the quality of our music is acknowledged in this way, we get all sorts of offers to perform for kids and families across Canada.” 2016 will see The Kerplunks and “Pants & Mammals” travelling to places far and wide, the Winnipeg Folk Festival and Hillside Festival in Ontario, to name a few.

The Kerplunks know their roots. “Gabriola Island and Nanaimo have been such wonderful communities to grow our band and our music careers,” says Dinah. Echoing the sentiment, Tina adds, “We feel so grateful to have the support of our island homes.” That is why they are making Nanaimo and Gabriola their first stop to launch “Pants & Mammals.”
