Join us Friday, Nov. 30, 7:30 p.m. at the Theatre Centre as Lulu presents Wood, Dreams and Lightning featuring guitarist Michael Waters, cellist Allannah Dow and shakuhachi flutist Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos.
These three veterans of deep and eclectic virtuosity join for an evening of original music. The instrumental meeting of guitar, classical cello, traditional shakuhachi flute and Japanese vocals creates a cultural world of far horizons and spellbinding intimate expression.
Michael Waters spent 33 years playing the guitar as a spiritual practice before his encounter with the medicine songs of the Peruvian Amazon triggered a whole new style of guitar work and the decision to begin playing publicly. He has since performed in Africa, Arabia, Europe and the United States.
Allannah Dow spent over 30 years playing cello in a classical and orchestral environment. A spiritual quest and desire to sing her own song gave birth to a new relationship with her century-old cello, Sebastian.
Allannah’s voice and cello combine to produce a spontaneous outpouring that carries the listener to the heart of the sacred cello.
Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos lives a life guided by shakuhachi. Simple, complex, intense, deep, his music is a visceral adventure of the soul, rich in heart and vibratory realizations.
His flute sings to us everywhere the shakuhachi has been: concert halls, caves to castles, cathedrals to campfires, ancient temples to living rooms, the mountains to deep in the rain forests.
Tickets, available at the Village Liquor Store, are $20 in advance and $25 at the door; youth (18 years and under) are $5.
See you at the show!
