The Keep Calm and Carry On Gallery continues to host the successful and popular series of guest visual artists with a show in November by Nanaimo-based Mia Tremblay. Tremblay, an award-winning and much lauded graduate of both Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute, has been working steadily with (in her words) “playful and furious intent” to bring some of her best and brightest work to Sheila Norgate’s Keep Calm and Carry On Gallery located on Suzanne Avenue.
In this latest show called “Leave Home”, Tremblay demonstrates just why it is that her work was singled out for recognition by art school instructors, and has been catching the eye of discerning collectors throughout North America. Using wood, paint, encaustic, printmaking and all manner of found objects, Tremblay weaves a wild and woolly visual narrative which manages to be both eclectic and cohesive. Her surrender to the moment informs everything she gets her hands on and it is this unbridled yielding that imbues her voice with the fresh passion of a brand new love affair. As she puts it: “I don’t make art. Art unmakes me.”
The show opens Friday November 2nd 7-10pm with an artist talk at 7pm and continues Saturday November 3rd 11-4pm.
