Night for the Museum

The first “Night for the Museum” fundraising event is happening on October 18 at the Gabriola Golf Club with Melanie Mamoser as MC. There will be silent and live auctions, draws and a poetry reading by Naomi Wakan. Gabriola and Vancouver Island artists and merchants have generously donated more than 60 items for auction.

The Regional District of Nanaimo grant to the museum covers its core operating costs. It does not cover the costs of maintenance, renovations, designing and building new exhibits, planning special presentation and events or staffing the museum during the summer season. The two new exhibits unveiled in 2014 cost more than $5000. We are now starting to generate the funds necessary for 2015 - the 20th anniversary of the museum.

Our proposed theme is “The Land Provides” - a look at food gathering and farming over the decades, our new generation of farm families as well as issues of food sustainability. Plans are also underway to restore the Native Plant Garden and to install informational signs and plaques for the exterior displays. Our hope is to attract visitors to our “outdoor” museum throughout the year.

Come for a night of fun and support your museum. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets $20 (includes a “burger and beer”) available at Artworks.
