“Most Canadians spend more time planning their annual vacations than their financial future” says Don Proteau, presenter of an up-coming workshop sponsored by the Gabriola Commons next Saturday. When tax time rolls around, do you think, “I wish I’d looked into the implications of giving something more to XX charity this year”, or maybe, “I wish I knew more about the effects on my estate of leaving a legacy to YY not-for-profit organization.” Don will cover such financial planning questions, the value of having a plan no matter how small or large our “wealth”, and will discuss the legalities and the how-to’s of legacy giving techniques.

Don is a Senior Financial Planner with Assante Wealth Management in Vancouver and has been keenly interested in helping his clients plan for retirements and manage their money effectively throughout the life span. A brief bio is posted at www.assante.com. An article he wrote can be found at www.assantevancouver.com

The workshop is open to all no matter what organization you might like to help. It will be held upstairs at the Commons on Saturday, Jan 17 from 1.30 to 3.30. 675 North Road, across from the Elementary School. Registration is not required, but Jinny Hayes would appreciate knowing numbers to plan handouts and refreshments. vhayes@uvic.ca or 250-247-8898.
