Sounds And Possibilities

Poetry Gabriola is striding boldly into 2018 with two great new February events.

The first, an experimental, interdisciplinary sound experience by Swiss/UK scholar Salomé Voegelin invites you to enter a world filled with sonic possibilities, including an exploration of “the political practice of the audible”.

Teaming up with Salomé is Gabriola Soundscapes, a four-channel audio installation based on Gabriola field recordings from both above and under water, by local audio luminary Andreas Kahre.

Please join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening.

Sunday, February 11, at The HIVE Emporium

5:30pm: Poetry Gabriola Annual General Meeting: Everyone welcome!

7pm: Sounds and Possibilities  Tickets $15 ($10 members)

Big Little Poetry Festival

We haven’t had a poetry festival on the island since 2012, and we are pleased and proud to say that the rumours are true – Poetry Gabriola is doing it again! Although it’s on a smaller scale than in the past, we believe we are onto something big!

Our second February event is Four Strong Voices at the new Big Little Poetry Festival, February 24th and 25th

This weekend will feature award-winning poet Marilyn Bowering; Victoria’s current Poet Laureate, Yvonne Blomer; poet, playwright, and actor Tina Biello; and rising Vancouver poetry star Kayla Czaga, as well as Gabriola poetry personalities to be announced. Rounding out the evening will be performances by the PGS Improviser’s Collective and special guests.

There will be a cash bar, book sales, and probably some of the hijinks you’ve come to expect from your favorite poetry producers.

Saturday February 24th and Sunday February 25th at The Hive Emporium. Tickets $15 ($10 members)
