The Gabriola Rod, Gun and Conservation Club (GRGCC) will once again be hosting the Canada Day Potato Cannon Contest on July 1.

As per every year, the event will be held on Brickyard Beach at 1:00 p.m.

Don Ingalls, GRGCC organizer for the event, said the rules are the same as last year: cannons must be made from plastic pipe, only hairspray can be used for propellant, participants need to bring their own potatoes for firing, and must be on the beach for registration at 12:30 p.m. on July 1. Spectators are requested to keep the area in front of the cannons clear.
