Island lifestyle offers unique opportunities to experience and interact with our natural bounty and, as islanders, it is important to celebrate the balance of our rural life.

As our species comes out from hibernation, so does our need to gather as a community.

Solstice offers a transition from spring awakening to summer’s playground, and this year islanders will have a grassroots community event to celebrate this transition.

Gabriola will have a new spring/summer outdoor gathering on Canada Day long weekend. The Salish Sea Islanders Festival will offer a venue for islanders to get together with family and friends and enjoy our island’s unique environment and community. Our festival will run from Friday, June 27 - Sunday, June 29 behind Twin Beaches Mall and at the beach itself.

This grassroots, community-run festival will offer a chance to showcase your skills, interests and talents with your community.

The Salish Sea Islanders Festival will be a coming together of Gabriolans and a showcase of local talent. Families will be able to listen to live music, shop local artisan stalls or learn a new skill at a workshop.

The weekend program will offer all-day entertainment by over 25 Gulf Island bands, unique islander workshops, children’s talent stage, nature-based family activities, local artisan market stalls, marine education and ecotourism tours, beach activities, community organizations info tables as well as biking, kayaking and sailing.

Tickets will be on sale at Artworks and all revenue will go directly back into our community. Vendors, volunteers and community groups who wish to get involved, please contact: or call Erin Mancor at 250-325-7172; website coming soon: www.salishseaislandersfestival.
