Thurs., Apr. 4 - Gabriola Garden Club. Presentation by Joanne Sales from Broom Busters. 7:30 pm. at the Agi Hall. She will speak on the control and eradication of Scotch Broom (cytisus scoparius) on Vancouver Island & the Gulf Islands. Please start and pot your plants for the plant exchange in May. Everyone welcome.

Starting Sat., Apr. 6 - The Canadian Firearms Safety Courses will be offered on two weekends in April. Non-restricted (rifles/shotguns) April 6 and 7, and the Restricted (handguns) April 13. For information/registration contact Imelda 250-247-8801.

Sat., Apr. 6 - Introduction to eBooks at the Gabriola Library. Drop in at 10:30 a.m. to learn step-by-step how to borrow eBooks from the library. No registration required.

Wed., Apr. 10 – Friends of the Library present Shelagh Rogers and a screening of the film Northwords at the Gabriola Library. This film follows a group of Canada’s finest writers as they travel to northern Labrador to explore, have adventures and create new works. Refreshments served at 6 p.m. Film presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. Please register at 250-247-7878.

Tues., Apr. 16, 23 & 30  - Family Storytime at the Gabriola Library. Drop in at 10:30 a.m. with your baby or tot for songs, stories and rhymes.

Thurs., Apr. 25 - Purls of Wisdom Knitting Group at the Gabriola Library. Join us at 6:30 pm for an evening of needlework and literature. Bring your craft projects and book recommendations. This event is held on the last Thursday of every month. Beginners are welcome. Drop-in.

Weekly Events

Mondays - Mom and Tots weekly gathering. 1:15-2:45 p.m. at the new PHC Community Resource Centre in the Gabriola Professional Centre. For first-time and experienced moms and their babies who are under one year old. Expectant mothers are also welcome.

Mondays - Al-Anon is a mutual support program for people who are currently, or have been, affected by someone else’s drinking. Meets at 7 p.m. at the WI Hall. For info call 250-247-2030.

Thursdays in March - Comfort on Computers - Session 2 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the PHC Community Resource Centre. 4 week classes, individual instruction, limited to 4 spaces. Call 250-325-2273 or email resources@phcgabriola.com.

Technology Thursdays in April at the Gabriola Library. Perplexed by your latest gadget? Want to learn how to download ebooks from the library? Join us between 1 and 2 pm to get free technology help from our librarian.

Saturdays - Workbees at the Commons 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., followed by warm friendly lunch with friends. Indoor tasks on rainy days.

AA meets at the WI Hall on South Road every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Also meets on Fridays at noon. For more information contact 250-753-7513.

Mon., July 1 - Canada Day. Festival with music and food in the Folklife Village hosted by Village Food Market. Potato Cannon contest at Brickyard Beach.

Thurs., Aug. 8 - Gabriola Lions’ Concert on the Green. Live concert at the Gabriola Golf Club. Tickets and information available from any member of the Gabriola Lions’ Club.

Sat., Aug. 10 - Annual Salmon BBQ at the Gabriola Community Hall. Funds raised go towards the Hall.
