Wed., Apr. 20 - Family Movie Night at the Library. 5 pm. We’ll be watching Minions on the big screen, complete with popcorn. Free, drop in at the Library.

Thurs., Apr. 21 - - Hidden India photo-journey with S. Struthers & A. Douglas, Gabriola Museum sponsor. 7pm, Rollo Seniors’ Centre. Admission by donation.

Fri., Apr. 22 - An information event for anyone interested in volunteering with Big Brothers & Big Sisters Gabriola will be held at the Elementary School in the multipurpose room at 10am with Paulyne Robinson from Big Brothers, Big Sisters. Fri., Apr. 22 - Earth Day NFB Film Screening of Hadwin’s Judgement. 1 pm. This film covers the events that led up to the destruction of the Golden Spruce, held sacred by the Haida Nation. Free, drop in at the Library.

Fri., Apr. 22 - Paws 4 Stories. 3-4 pm. Children spend one-on-one time with Therapy dog Pepper and his handler Adela in the Library. Free registration. Call library at 250-247-7878 to sign up for a 15-minute session.

Fri., Apr. 22 - Cowspiracy, the Sustainability Secret. A documentary screening presented by Gabriola Vegeteers in recognition of Earth Day. 7pm at The Roxy @ Twin Beaches Mall. Admission by donation. For more info visit vegeteers.com

Sat., Apr. 23 - Amnesty International Day of Action. 11 am – 4 pm. Join Amnesty members to raise awareness on family disappearances in Mexico. Create messages of concern and solidarity in the form of paper butterflies, which will be delivered to organizations in Mexico. Free, drop in at the Library. Everyone welcome.

Thurs., Apr. 28 - Freighter Anchorage Proposal Community Forum. Featuring a presentation from Dr. Eoin Finn. Presented by AnchorRage’s GAFA, SOS, and GROWLS. 6:30pm at the Gabriola Elementary School Gym.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday April 29, 30 and May 1 - ICONIC Theatre Company presents four theatrical readings of David Hare’s play Skylight at the Theatre Centre, 1475 Peterson Road. Fri @ 7pm: $18. Sat., Apr. 30 - People for a Healthy Community (PHC) invite you to their annual fundraiser, “Spring Extravaganza & Charity Silent Auction” from 5pm - 9pm at Silva Bay Restaurant & Pub, 3383 South Road. Tuesdays - Library Lego Club. 3-4:30 pm. Drop-in free play Lego time. Best suited for children 6 – 12 years.

Wednesdays - Family Storytime at the Library. 10:30-11 am. Favourite stories, songs, and rhymes! For children birth to 5 years. Drop in.

Compassionate Connections – ‘A safe place to talk about hard things.’ Sharing & listening. For anyone dealing with a challenge to their mental well being. On Facebook at compassionate connectionsgabriola or call Kat, 250-247-7182. Free & professionally moderated. 

AA meetings. Tuesdays at the Surf Lodge at 8am. Closed meeting for alcoholics only. Fridays at Robert’s Place upstairs at noon (12pm). Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, AA meets at 7pm at the Commons (downstairs). For information contact 250-753-7513.
