Fri., Apr. 17 - Pam Galloway and Susan McCaslin workshop at the Poetry Yurt at the Commons. Transforming the Personal through Writing. 9:30-12:10. Pam Galloway in her recent volume of Poetry, Passing Stranger, has explored her profound experiences of miscarriage, divorce, birth, and renewal. Susan McCaslin in her new memoir, Into the Mystic: My Years with Olga, traces the sixteen revelatory years she spent learning from an elderly Canadian mystic from Port Moody.

Sun., Apr. 19 - Gabriola Chamber Ensemble presents Beautiful Music featuring Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi and works by Alan Hovhaness, Franz Lehar, Astor Piazolla and others. 5pm at the Phoenix Auditorium at The Haven. Tickets are $15 and available at the door; children 10 and under free with an adult.

Wed., Apr. 22 celebrate Earth Day with GaLTT at Descanso Bay Regional Park. Bring your picnic and enjoy a guided walk.  5 pm – dusk.

Tuesdays at the Gabriola Library: Lego Club! 3-5pm.

Tuesdays: Ever wonder about Jesus? Ever wondered about what he said? Come and find out for yourself while we read the New Testament together. At the Gabriola Fellowship Church. (First reading session March 31) You can join anytime between 6:30 and 8pm. Everybody aged 13-113 is welcome. Bibles available for those who don’t have one.

Wednesdays - Family Storytime at the Library. 10:30 – 11 am. Drop in with your little ones for stories, songs, and rhymes. Ages 5 years and younger.

Thursdays: Technology help at the Gabriola Library. Drop-in, 1-2 pm.

AA meets at the WI Hall on South Road every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Also meets on Fridays at noon. For more information contact 250-753-7513.

Saturday May 16 - Opening Weekend of the Gabriola Farmers' Market at the Agi Hall. Traditionally open  10am to 1pm, every Saturday between Victoria Day weekend to Labour Day weekend.

Sunday, August 2 - 4th Annual Brickyard Beast 10km road race. "One of the toughest 10k Road Races in Canada! Come and Slay the Beast!" Brickyardbeast.com

Thursday, August 6 - Gabriola Lions' Club Concert on the Green. Gabriola Golf Course. 4pm. The biggest fundraiser of the year for the Lions' with roughly 1,500 people on the driving range of the Golf Club enjoying the music, food and dog days of summer weather.

Sat., Aug. 8 - 60th Annual Community Hall Salmon Barbeque. Fundraiser at (and for) the Gabriola Island Community Hall.

Thursday, August 13 to Sunday, August 16 - 7th Annual Gabriola Theatre Festival. Bold, Inclusive, Innovative, Incredible Energy, Incredible Theatre. Take the plunge on BC’s beautiful Gabriola Island. Call for Submissions for 2015 are open at artsgabriola.ca/gabriola-theatre-fest/

Saturday, October 10 to Monday, October 12 - Gabriola Arts Council Thanksgiving Studio Tour. Gabriola Island—the “Isle of the Arts”—has the sixth highest concentration of artists in Canada. While every day is a celebration of art on this lush and lively island, on Thanksgiving weekend the festivities reach dizzying heights. Island artists throw open their studio doors to tempt your senses with dazzling arrays of art! On October 10–11–12, the studios of sixty artists will be open for visiting and viewing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Head to artsgabriola.ca/events for more details.
