Fri., Aug. 23 - Imagine the Impossibilities Magic Show. 11 am at the Library. Celebrate the end of Summer Reading Club with magician Leif David and a very special magic show! This is a free, family event sponsored by Gabriola’s amazing Friends of the Library. Drop in. Everyone welcome.

Sat., Aug 24 - Book Launch with Mary Mitchell. 2 pm at the Library. A fun book event for kids and parents! Gabriola illustrator Mary Mitchell presents her new picture book Lily and Flinge and the Piece of Kibble. Learn about where the idea originated, Mary’s creative collaboration with her uncle, and info and tips on the self-publishing process. Free, drop in. Everyone welcome.

Sat., Aug. 24 & Sun. Aug. 25 - The Wood Show, presented by the Gabriola Woodworkers Guild at the Arts & Heritage Centre, 476 South Road. 10am-4pm.

Wed., Aug. 28 - Film. Outsourced. 7pm at the Roxy. A Seattle call-center is outsourced to India and its manager is sent there to train his own replacement. An amusing tale of cultural differences and the lessons to be learned from ‘backward’ societies. Thurs., Aug. 29 -  the regular Gabriola Cruisers monthly meeting will be held at the Gabriola Golf Club at 7 PM. Those wishing to eat should arrive earlier. We invite all members, guests and car & bike enthusiasts to attend. Parking can be in the staff parking area or the club parking lot across the street. Any members who have not yet paid their dues can do so at this meeting and any guests that would like to join are welcome.

Thurs,. Aug. 29 - Fibre Arts Circle at the Library. 2-4 pm. Bring your projects and enjoy an afternoon of tea and crafting with other fibre enthusiasts. Beginners and newcomers welcome. Free, drop in.

Fri., Aug. 30 - GaLTT night biking with Derrill Shuttleworth in 707 Community Park. 9pm. 12 yrs and up. Helmets and front & back bike lights required.

Wed., Sept. 11 - Understanding Grief in our Community. 1:30 - 2:30 at the Library. Everyone experiences grief and manages the sadness in an individual way. How can we support people who are experiencing grief in our community, family and friendships? What can we do to help cope with our own grief journey? This public session and discussion is presented by the Gabriola Home Hospice Program and facilitated by Mary Abbott, who is a Nanaimo Hospice Volunteer and Life Cycle Celebrant. Free, drop in event. Everyone welcome.

Sun., Sept. 15 - Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research. Walk. Run. Wheel. Ride. At Twin Beaches on Gabriola. 1k - 5k - 10k. Registration opens at 9:30am. run starts at 11am.
