Thurs., Aug. 9 - Gabriola Lions’ Concert on the Green. This year’s concert once again features ABRA Cadabra with an energetic and lively performance of ABBA’s timeless music. Tickets $15, available from any member of the Gabriola Lions Club.

Sat., Aug. 11 - Gabriola Island Community Hall Association’s 57th Annual Salmon Barbecue at the Community Hall on South Road. 4 to 8 p.m. Live music and beer garden.

Sun., Aug. 12 - The 8th annual Saskatchewan Picnic. 3-7 p.m. 1985 Thompson Road. Enjoy an honest to goodness old fashioned relaxing afternoon. If you’re from Saskatchewan or have Saskatchewan roots come for the laughs, stories, reminiscing and the food. Super farm fresh corn feast. Salads and desserts brought by picnickers. Thurs., Aug. 16 - The Stowaway Stringband on their Wind Powered Tour arrives at the Gabriola Island Community Hall for an all ages oldtime barn dance! Starting at 7 p.m. Tickets at Artworks and the Village Liquor Store ($10 advance, $5 kids under 12). Door tickets are available for $15. All tour dates at www.myspace.com/windpoweredtour.

Mon., Aug. 20 - Hale and Hearty are Rachel Capon and Eli Bender with guest artist Brad Shipley. Phoenix Auditorium, The Haven. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $15 at Artworks and at the door. Presented by Lulu Performing Arts Society and Tawny Capon.

Seven Days a Week: The Gabriola Visitor Information Centre at Twin Beaches Mall on Taylor Bay Road is open from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m.

Mondays - Kayaking and Yoga with Silva Bay Kayak Adventures. At the Silva Bay Inn dock. 9 a.m. - noon, $30 or $15 if B.Y.O.Boat. Come out and enjoy this relaxing combination of sea kayaking with a one-hour yoga session on the smooth sandstone rocks! No experience necessary! 250-247-8939.

Mondays - Sunset Paddle with Silva Bay Kayak Adventures. At the Silva Bay Inn dock. 6:30-8:30 p.m., $20 or free if B.Y.O.Boat! All ages. Come out and enjoy paddling around the flat top islands in a social and fun format, while catching spectacular sunsets from out on the water! No experience necessary! 250-247-8939.

Wednesdays - The Gabriola Walking Group. 10 a.m. Everybody welcome.  Dogs only on a leash. Most walks are 1.5 to 2 hour duration. For more information call 250-247-9990.

Wednesdays - The  PHC Kids Garden Club. 3-4 p.m. Meet at the school (if you’re in school) and walk over to the Commons, or meet at the Commons with your Mom or Dad to register and have fun while learning to garden! We look forward to seeing you!

Thursdays - Live Music at Woodfire! New Time: 7-9 p.m.  Enjoy the talented and ever popular duo of Amber Handley and Brad Shipley as you feast on the delightful flavours of Woodfire. Reservations recommended. Call 250-247-0095.

Saturdays - Workbees at the Commons. 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. To do: many ongoing things around the Commons. Bring: gloves, shovel, hand trowel, other tools you find useful.

October 31 - Annual Fireworks show at Twin Beaches. Hosted by the Gabriola Firefighters Association. Look for the rubber boots at local merchants to appear in October to contribute towards the show. Hot dogs, Hot Chocolate and bonfire.
