Thurs., Dec. 19 - A festive evening at Woodfire. Talented Amber Handley & Brad Shipley will be treating dinner guests to an evening of Holiday music to get you in the mood for Christmas. This is the last chance to hear this talented duo for a while so please come and support them and enjoy while savouring the wonderful flavours of Woodfire. Reservations are recommended. Sat., Dec. 21 - Christmas Alive! at The Commons at 5pm. A great family activity as five island churches present a live enactment of the traditional story of the birth of Christ. Come out and walk with Mary and Joseph, sing, see the angels, wise men, animals and enjoy some refreshments – rain or shine!

Sat., Dec. 21 - Christmas at the Gabriola Library. Join the Library staff for a puppet show, a festive story, snacks, refreshments and carols by the Gabriola Island Singers. 12:30pm - 2:00pm.

Tues., Dec. 25 - PHC Annual Spirit Feast. Volunteers are needed! Call Pat Maloney at 247-7956 to find out how you can be a part of this fabulously festive event.

Tues., Jan. 1, 2013 - Annual Gabriola Polar Bear Swim. High noon at Twin Beaches (Gabriola Sands Provincial Park). See you all there!

Sat., Jan. 11 - Book Presentation: Choosing Work, Before Work Chooses You. 3pm at the Library. Margit Hesthammar: a writer, teacher, motivational speaker and a member of the Diamond Approach, a school of transpersonal psychology. Margit will present her book which is inspired by her work over the last fifteen years designing and facilitating career transition programs. Book available now at Pages Resort & Marina Bookstore.

Weekly Events

Tuesdays - Rides to Nanaimo are offered every Tuesday for seniors (or those on disability). Volunteers with the Circle of Care Program at People for a Healthy Community (PHC) will drive to Dr’s appointments or for shopping on the 10:05 am ferry to return on the 2:30 ferry. Tuesdays - Life Drawing at Rose Crystal Studio, 380 Stephens Road. Gabriola. 10am to 12pm. $12 drop-in. For info call 247-7476.

Wednesdays - Family Storytime at the Library is at 10:30am and continues until Dec. 18. Resumes January 8, 2014.

Saturdays - Workbees at the Commons 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., followed by warm friendly lunch with friends. Indoor tasks on rainy days.

AA meets at the WI Hall on South Road every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Also meets on Fridays at noon. For more information contact 250-753-7513.

Al-Anon is a mutual support program for people who are currently, or have been, affected by someone else’s drinking. Meets Mondays at 7 p.m. at the WI Hall. For info call 250-247-2030.

Narcotics Anonymous - Gabriola meetings are Thursdays at 7 p.m. on the lower level of the Commons.
