Thurs., Dec. 20 - Poetry Gabriola Open Mic Night. Don’t let your “Bah Humbucket List” get you down!  Join us from 7-9 p.m. (doors at 6:30) at the Old Crow Café for a little Christmas Spoken Word and cheer! Signup list at the door; by donation.

Fri., Dec. 21 - Common’s Solstice Celebration. 5 p.m. upstairs. Potluck. Bring family and friends and something to share, if you wish – poem? Song? Story? Questions, info, call Heide, 250-247-7384.

Sat., Dec. 22 - A Celebration of Life for Dave McIntyre. 4:30-9 p.m. at the Rollo Centre. Open house with potluck dinner to start at 5:30. Please bring pictures and memories to share.

Sat., Dec. 22 - Christmas Alive! 5 p.m., outside at the Commons. Watch the Christmas story unfold as it is narrated by Antony Holland. Sing familiar carols. Free. A gift from the Anglican/Lutheran, United and Catholic churches of Gabriola. Approximately 1/2 hour in length, followed by hot chocolate. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight!

Mon., Dec. 24 - Christmas Eve Service at the Gabriola Fellowship Church, corner of North Road and Church Street. 6:30 p.m. Everyone welcome.

Tues., Dec. 25 - PHC Annual Spirit Feast at Camp Miriam. Volunteers are needed! Email Chloe at straw.chloe@gmail.com or call PHC at 250-247-7311 to find out about volunteering for this fun and festive event hosted on Dec. 25.

Thurs., Dec. 27 - Companions Through Grief Support Group meets the last Thursday of each month. New time! 3-4:30 p.m. Call Carroll at 250-247-7213.

Thurs., Dec. 27 - Stories at the Memory well. 1:30 p.m. at the Yurt on the Commons. Come together and share brief stories of our lives.

Fri., Dec. 28 - Season’s greetings from the Coffeehouse! The last Coffeehouse of the year is an All Open Stage evening at the Haven 7:30-10 p.m. Come and play or come and listen! It’ll be fun! $5.

Tues., Jan. 1, 2013 - Annual Gabriola Polar Bear Swim. High noon at Twin Beaches (Gabriola Sands Provincial Park). We’re moving the swim this year to a location with more parking and washroom facilities. See you all there!

Wed., Jan. 2 - Caregivers Support Group, 2 p.m. at the Gabriola United Church (2600 South Rd.) For further information call Angela Nutter, 250-247-9732.

Tues., Jan. 8 - Commons Community Council. 7 p.m. Moved to second Tuesday due to the holiday – come hear what’s happening at the Commons.

 

Weekly Events

Saturdays - Teen Night at the Gathering Place from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Saturdays - Workbees at the Commons 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., followed by warm friendly lunch of hot soup with friends. Indoor tasks on rainy days.

AA meets at the WI Hall on South Road. Every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Also meets on Fridays at noon. For more information contact 250-753-7513.

Mondays - Al-Anon is a mutual support program for people who are currently, or have been, affected by someone else’s drinking. Meets at 7 p.m. at the WI Hall. For info call 250-247-2030.

 

Upcoming Festivals and Events 

Monday July 1 - Canada Day. Festival with music and food in the Folklife Village hosted by Village Food Market. Potato Cannon contest at Brickyard Beach.

Thurs., Aug. 8 - Gabriola Lions’ Concert on the Green. Live concert at the Gabriola Golf Club. Tickets and information available from any member of the Gabriola Lions’ Club.

Sat. Aug. 10 - Annual Salmon BBQ at the Gabriola Community Hall. Funds raised go towards the Hall.

October 12 to October 14 - Annual Thanksgiving Studio Tour from the Gabriola Arts Council. www.gabriolaartscouncil.org.
