Wed., Feb. 7 - Tending the Lands, Tending the Sea: Traditional Land and Resource Management on the BC Coast. Part of the Gabriola Land and Trails Trust Annual General Meeting with Guest Speaker Dr. Nancy J. Turner. Emeritus Professor, Environmental Studies, University of Victoria. Dr. Turner is an eminent ethnobotanist who has worked with First Nations elders and cultural specialists in north-western North America for over 40 years in an effort to collaboratively document and retain traditional knowledge of plants and habitats. She will discuss the traditional knowledge, land and resource management systems of Indigenous Peoples. Her presentation integrates the fields of botany and ecology with those of anthropology, geography and linguistics.This presentation is complimentary to and supportive of the From Truth to Reconciliation Speakers Series.

Sat., Feb. 10 - Gabriola Tool Library Info Table. 10 am – noon. Want to find out more about the Gabriola Tool Library? Organizers will have an info table set up at the Gabriola (book) Library. Come say hello, meet the people behind the project, and learn more.

Sun., Feb. 11 - Be Our Valentine. All-ages Fundraiser for Cats Alive, 1-4pm at The Hive.  This benefit for cat rescue, foster and adoption will feature a live and silent auction of remarkable artist and artisan decorated boxes, sale of cat-related items and a craft table for children.

Fri., Feb. 16 -  Make It @ the Library: Plant Pot Decorating. 10:30 am. Join other adults at the library for a morning of making! Use the library’s stash of paints and paint pens to transform a plain terracotta pot into a functional work of art. All materials provided. Free, drop in. Everyone welcome.

Fri., Feb. 16 - Salish Sea: Weaving Music & Stories. 1 pm. Join us at the library as we welcome Story-teller and traditional Snuneymuxw basket weaver David Spirit Wolf Bodaly, who will be musically accompanied by Master Luthier, Patrick Olmsted. Sun., Feb. 18 - Gabriola Ecumenical Event - Lifting our Spirits - Finding the Sacred  at the Netloft, 1960 Murray Road, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm, admission by donation.  The program will offer short presentations by five islanders on aspects of their “spiritual questing” followed by an opportunity for everyone to hear and listen to others about their spiritual journeys.

Tuesdays - Ever wonder about Jesus? Who he is? What he says? Come find out for yourself by reading the Bible together. Or just come listen. Tuesdays 6:30-8:00 pm at Gabriola Fellowship Church, 775 Church St. We’ll be starting the New Testament, Jan 9, 2018. Everybody welcome. Bibles provided or bring your own. Sundays - The Alpha Film Series. 12 weeks starting Jan. 28. Peer Led Exercise Group, Mon thru Thurs, 11am-12pm at Gabriola Rec Society Office (inside the elementary school) and Friday 11am – 12pm at the Community Hall. This circuit style exercise program supports those people who are managing chronic health conditions.  New participants must register.
