Sat., Jan. 26 - Family Literacy Day at the Gabriola Library. 2 p.m. Celebrate Family Literacy Day with us as we present The Magic of Zanthera, featuring sisters Heather & Sandra McNeill. This fantastic magical duo will perform amazing tricks and illusions. Let the magic begin!

Sun., Jan. 27 - John & Nancy Peirce are offering a “slide” show of their trip last November to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island and the Antarctic Peninsula. Everyone welcome! 7-9 p.m. Rollo Centre.

Sat., Feb. 2 - Gabriola Historical and Museum Society AGM - 2013 – Brickyards to Hippies and Beyond! 1:30 p.m. at the Women’s Institute, North Rd. Enjoy a short presentation on museum design by Ernie Tomlinson, and a sneak peek at planned renovations to the museum’s public space. Open to the general public. Renewals and new memberships will be available. Wine and cheese reception will follow the meeting.

Mon. & Tues., Feb. 25 & 26 -  Screening Mammography Program of BC (SMPBC) mobile service will be on Gabriola Island providing free screening mammograms to BC women ages 40 to 79.  An appointment takes about 15 minutes and you do not need a doctor’s referral. Weekly Events

The Gabriola Museum is now closed for the season. Open by appointment only. Call 250-247-9987 or email info@gabriolamuseum.org or visit www.gabriolamuseum.org.

Saturdays - Teen Night at the Gathering Place from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Saturdays - Workbees at the Commons 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., followed by warm friendly lunch of hot soup with friends. Indoor tasks on rainy days.

AA meets at the WI Hall on South Road. Every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Also meets on Fridays at noon. For more information contact 250-753-7513.

Mondays - Mom and Tots weekly gathering. 1:15 pm to 2:45 pm at the new PHC Community Resource Centre in the Gabriola Professional Centre. For first-time and experienced moms and their babies who are under one year old. Expectant mothers are also welcome.

Mondays - Al-Anon is a mutual support program for people who are currently, or have been, affected by someone else’s drinking. Meets at 7 p.m. at the WI Hall. For info call 250-247-2030.

Monday July 1 - Canada Day. Festival with music and food in the Folklife Village hosted by Village Food Market. Potato Cannon contest at Brickyard Beach.

Thurs., Aug. 8 - Gabriola Lions’ Concert on the Green. Live concert at the Gabriola Golf Club. Tickets and information available from any member of the Gabriola Lions’ Club.

Sat. Aug. 10 - Annual Salmon BBQ at the Gabriola Community Hall. Funds raised go towards the Hall.

October 12 to October 14 - Annual Thanksgiving Studio Tour from the Gabriola Arts Council. www.gabriolaartscouncil.org/.
