Wed., Jan. 1, 2013 - Annual Gabriola Polar Bear Swim. High noon at Twin Beaches (Gabriola Sands Provincial Park). See you all there!

Sat., Jan. 4 - Join First Nations author Monique Gray Smith talking about her new book Tilly: A Story of Hope, Faith and Empathy at the Gabriola Library. Introduced by local author Katherine Palmer Gordon. Starts at 3pm.

Thurs., Jan. 9 - Island Waterscape & Design will be making a presentation about building water features and ponds on your property. Hope to see you next week. 7:30pm

Sat., Jan. 11 - Book Presentation: Choosing Work, Before Work Chooses You. 3pm at the Library. Margit Hesthammar: a writer, teacher, motivational speaker and a member of the Diamond Approach, a school of transpersonal psychology. Margit will present her book which is inspired by her work over the last fifteen years designing and facilitating career transition programs. Book available now at Pages Resort & Marina Bookstore.

Sat., Jan. 18 - Score with Reading at the Gabriola Library. Members of the Nanaimo Clippers will read from their favourite books and challenge islanders to a little hockey afterwards (weather permitting). 2:30 to 4:30.

Sat., Jan. 18 - The Lulu Performing Arts Society presents Pierre-André Doucet, Pianist and Author. 7:30pm @ The Phoenix.  Advance tickets $20 at Village Liquor Store. $25 at the door; $5 for youth (16 and under). For more information email info@luluperforming

Weekly Events

Tuesdays - Rides to Nanaimo are offered every Tuesday for seniors (or those on disability). Volunteers with the Circle of Care Program at People for a Healthy Community (PHC) will drive to Dr’s appointments or for shopping on the 10:05 am ferry to return on the 2:30 ferry. Tuesdays - The Second and Fourth Tuesday of each month staff from the Nanaimo Citizen Advocacy organization is available at PHC from 11-1pm. Drop in or make an appointment 250-753 2321

Wednesdays - Family Storytime at the Library is at 10:30am and resumes January 8, 2014.

Wednesdays - Weekly Jam at the Gabriola Golf Club. Starts at 8:30 p.m. and goes late. Electric/acoustic/a cappella ... you never know what you might hear! Bring an instrument or just your ears.

Saturdays - Workbees at the Commons 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., followed by warm friendly lunch with friends. Indoor tasks on rainy days.

AA meets at the WI Hall on South Road every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Also meets on Fridays at noon. For more information contact 250-753-7513.

Al-Anon is a mutual support program for people who are, or have been, affected by someone else’s drinking.  Al-Anon meets on the first Monday of every month at the WI Hall at 7 pm.  For info call 250-247-2030

Narcotics Anonymous - Gabriola meetings are Thursdays at 7 p.m. on the lower level of the Commons.
