Wed., June 25 - The annual public meeting with Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure officials will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Agi Hall. We hope you will be able to attend and look forward to a lively discussion of issues related to roads on Gabriola. This meeting is sponsored by the Gabriola Transportation Association and the Gabriola Ratepayers Association. Tues., July 1 - Canada Day and 20th Anniversary Celebration of Village Food Market opening in Folklife Village. 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Folklife Village parking lot. Smokies on a bun and refreshments all by donation with proceeds to the HOPE Centre. Musical performance by Swingclub!

Tues., July 1 - Annual Canada Day Potato Cannon Contest. Brickyard Beach. Cannon competition starts at 1 p.m. Hosted by the Gabriola Rod, Gun and Conservation Club.

Workshops and markets

Gabriola Farmers’ Market: Open every Saturday until Thanksgiving at the Gabriola Agi Hall. Open to the public at 10am (wait for the bell) until 1pm. Dogs permitted if on a leash. Drop-in vendors: please arrive before 8:30am and speak to Daryl about a space.

Sunday June 22, come and explore the thrill of West African rhythm and dance with Aboubacar Camara; from 4-6pm at the NetLoft on 1960 Murray Road. This is the last of a series of workshops so we will end with a potluck dinner afterward. Suggested donation of $15/class - tel: 1 250- 247-7652. Bring instruments (or rent for $5) and indoor shoes.

The Gabriola Museum is open for spring hours. From May 18 to Canada Day the Museum will be open weekends and holidays 11 am to 3:30 pm. Open daily after July 1.

Saturdays starting July 5: Knowledgeable Rob Brockley will be leading forest walks in the lovely Cox Community Park and Descanso Regional Park. Meet at 2pm in the Regional Park day-users parking lot every Saturday afternoon in July and August.

AA meets at the WI Hall on South Road every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Also meets on Fridays at noon. For more information contact 250-753-7513.

Al-Anon - mutual support program for people who are, or have been, affected by someone else’s drinking. Meets on the first Monday of every month. WI Hall at 7 pm. For info call 250-247-2030.

Narcotics Anon - Gabriola meetings are Mondays at 8 p.m. on the lower level of the Commons.
