Sat., June 24 - GROWLS Gabriola Bat Monitoring presents Vanessa Craig, PhD, RPBio  She is a Director of EcoLogic Research, based on Gabriola Island. Vanessa’s talk will provide an overview of bats around the world, introduce the bats living in B.C., an overview of ways biologists research bats, talk about the challenges facing our bat species and ways in which we can help.  Maybe  after the talk we will see bats flying high over the meadow behind the Roxy.  The Roxy Theatre  7 pm doors 6:30 By Donation

Sat., June 24 - Iconic Theatre Company presents the play “100” at the Library. 2 pm. If you had to choose one moment from your life to relive for eternity, what would you choose? Free, drop in. Everyone welcome.

Sat., July 1st - Boat Parade through False Narrows hosted by the Silva Bay Yacht Club. Decorate your boat and join us for this special Canada 150 event. Muster at south end of False Narrows around 11:30 am. Or gather to view from shore at Brickyard Beach. To register and for more details, email

Sat., July 22 - Soundz In The Round Tap Dance. 8pm. The annual percussive romp at the Surf Lodge. Tap dust will be flying-international sensations, Terry Brock and Jason Janas (JJ) will hit the wood with their articulated energy, and Vancouver’s tap maestro on keyboard, Michael Creber joins us. And, a very special musical guest/singer. Join the circle of (60) for this rare and intimate rendezvous of articulated energy. Some may remember JJ, years ago, he danced at the Haven....think “sweaty knees.” Tix: $25 at North Road Sports or at the door.

Weekly With Silva Bay Kayaks:

Mondays - Carlos Island Picnic - $25 (BYO-picnic).  6:30-9pm - Paddle out to Carlos Island, one of the Flat Top Islands, to have a picnic and see an amazing sunset over the Georgia Straight.

Wednesdays - Sunset Paddle - 6:30-9pm. $25. Fun, social, tour exploring the shoreline. Checking out harbour seals, eagle nesting habitats, and much more.

Saturday - Taste of Gabriola Tour - 2:30-5:30pm - $55 (Kids $40) Take the morning to check out the Farmer’s Market and catch the GERTIE bus to get to Silva Bay for the 1:30 start of a 3-hour guided kayak tour. Explore the shoreline and head to an island with time to beachcomb or swim, before we paddle back to the dock.

Silva Bay Kayak events include your choice of sea kayak or stand up paddleboard. No reservations necessary. Drop in 15 min before each event starts. Questions or a large group call 250-247-8939. Byo boat for a social, fun paddle for free

Mondays - The Gabriola Lions Club meets every second and fourth Monday from September to June, at the Albert Reed Memorial Fire Hall #1 (730 Church Street) Social at 6:30pm. Meeting at 7pm. Enquiries welcomed. 250-247-7635
