Fri., June 29 - Coffeehouse on Gabriola features Jack and May, a very funny musical duo. Described in one review as “folk-ishly funny,” May Brown and Jack Stevenson. The playful banter between the real-life couple also adds to the fun. At the Golf Club, with music from 6:30 to 10:00, only $5, donation. Delicious burgers (beef, chicken, salmon, veggie) served at 6:00.

Sun., July 1 - The Annual Canada Day Potato Cannon contest at Brickyard Beach. Hosted by the Gabriola Rod, Gun and Conservation Club. Registration at 12:30, the cannons will fire at 1 p.m.

Sun., July 1 - Sam Baker, one of Texas’s best songwriters, is giving a show on Gabriola Island before he heads up to star at the Island Music Fest in Courtney. His music is full of insight into humanity and delivered in such an engaging way that he can only be described as the Leonard Cohen of Texas. Sam is a delight with a warn Texas drawl.
