Thurs., May 21 - The wacky, classic and wonderful school musical “Alice In Wonderland” will be shown at Gabriola Elementary school gym. Daytime performance 12:30 -2:30 and Evening performance 6:00 -8:00 pm.

Gabriola Players presents a One Act Play Festival on May 22, 23 at 7pm and May 23, 24 at 2pm at the Rollo Centre. Seats $17 available at North Road Sports and at gabriolaplayers.ca. The plays, Eyes of a Blue Dog by Mark Smith, Lemon Yellow Laces by Dennis Johnston and That’s Nice by Anne M. Holmes are all written by Gabriola Playwrights and were selected in a competition to celebrate Gabriola Players 10th year.

Sat., May 23 - Community Day at the Gabriola Golf Club. 9am to 3pm. Free pancakes, free golf hints from our pro, free driving range balls, and a free round of golf.

Sat., May 23 - Benefit Concert for Lou Gradanti. 6:30pm at the Community Hall. A multitude of Gabriola performers on stage; Silent Auction; wine bar and snack bar will also be available. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or in advance at North Road Sports & Clothing at the Madrona Market place. The event is being organized by friends and former students of Lou’s. Sat., May 24 - Walk for MS Awareness. 10:30am to 12:30am. 1km walk, starts at Wild Rose Garden Centre. Come with a donation on the day of the walk or go online and donate to the GabriolaMSWalk on the website www.mssociety.ca under the BC heading. Dogs on leash are welcome. Sun., May 24 - Trans Gabriola Trek. Silva Bay to Surf Lodge. Starts at Silva Bay Pub at 10am (parking water side at the Silva Bay Inn). Walk through the centre of the island, mostly on trails, to Surf Lodge by 3pm. GERTIE will deliver walkers back to their cars for a small donation in the late afternoon. DATE CHANGE Now happening on Sun., May 24 - Broom chipping. Hosted by the Gabriola Garden Club, Wild Rose Nursery, and Island Firewood. By donation from 11 am to 2 pm at the upper lot of the Wild Rose Nursury.

Wed., May 27 - The Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, will visit Gabriola to present $1,000 and a trophy to Director Gail Lund and the Gabriola Island Singers, for their winning contest submission of “Happy Birthday Canada”. The community is invited to join in the celebration; hear a special performance and enjoy some light refreshments at the Community Hall at 7:15.

Wed., May 27 - Lulu turns 10! presents Cycles: A Journey in Four Acts featuring Paul Gellman and a stellar cast. 7:30pm at the Phoenix. While every day is a celebration of art on this lush and lively island, on Thanksgiving weekend the festivities reach dizzying heights. Island artists throw open their studio doors to tempt your senses with dazzling arrays of art!
