Sun., June 8 - World Oceans Day. Celebrate our marine environment! 11 till 3pm at Descanso Bay Regional Park. 2014 Focus: Forage Fish. Sat., June 14 - Meet experienced Island walker Bob Weenk for guided walks in the 707 Acre Community Park, Gabriola’s newest and largest community park. Walks will be approximately 1.5 hrs in length. Wear comfortable shoes, weather suitable clothing and bring your own water. This walk is planned to take in the Tin Can Alley circle. Meet at intersection of Tin Can Alley and North Road at 1pm. Organized by the Gabriola Land and Trails Trust (GaLTT)

Workshops and markets

Gabriola Farmers’ Market: Open every Saturday until Thanksgiving at the Gabriola Agi Hall. Open to the public at 10am (wait for the bell) until 1pm. Dogs permitted if on a leash. Drop-in vendors: please arrive before 8:30am and speak to Daryl about a space.

Come to the Gabriola Professional Centre on North Road before June 13 to enjoy the watercolour paintings of Pam Tempelmayr of Whalebone Studio. Pam has been painting for more than 40 years and has assembled a collection of her many “story-within-story” paintings in her fish and whale series especially for display at the Centre. Works shown will include many paintings not previously seen on Gabriola Island.

Sun., June 8 & 22, come and experience the thrill of a live African Orchestra with Aboubacar Camara. Weekly Events

The Gabriola Museum is open for spring hours. From May 18 to Canada Day the Museum will be open weekends and holidays 11 am to 3:30 pm. Open daily after July 1.

Mondays: Sunset Paddle with Silva Bay Kayaks. 6:30pm to Sunset. $25 for a Kayak or Stand-Up Paddleboard. Meet at the Silva Bay Inn docks 15 min early to pay and gear up. Free if you BYOBoat.
