Sat., Nov. 23 - Join us for a presentation by The Sustainable Energy Co-op of Gabriola focusing on how Gabriolans can keep things going during a power cut without the need for a generator. 1pm-3pm at the Gabriola Library. Strategies for providing water and heat and for keeping food frozen or cool. Also how much electricity various appliances need and how much solar-powered battery storage would be required to keep some lights on and essential items going. Learn how to keep the lights on sustainably!

Sun., Nov. 24 - Gabriola Power and Sail Squadron will host impelling informative afternoon presentation by Fisheries and Oceans at Rollo Centre from 2pm to 4pm. Subject matter will be whales, dolphins, & porpoises and ways to protect them and other marine subjects, as the audience may request. Discussion & exchange of ideas will follow. Tea, coffee, & snacks will be available. Admission by donation. Everyone welcome.

Wed. Nov. 27, Film, Moscow Does Not Believe In Tears. 7p.m. at the Roxy. 1980 Oscar winner follows 3 young women who move to late-’50’s Moscow for work and romance. A rare peek at everyday life behind the Iron Curtain. Officialdom called it “soppy melodrama not worthy of the Soviet woman” but it was hugely popular in Russia. Journey with Gabriolan Maureen Wild, to these special lands within Germany and Italy with a multimedia presentation of her recent photos and inspirational music/chant from each place. By donation. Thurs., Dec. 12 - EmPower Gabriola, the island’s Sustainable Energy Co-op, is having its second Annual General Meeting at 6 pm upstairs at the Gabriola Commons. Anyone interested is welcome to attend to learn what’s been happening and take part in the discussion of future plans, but only those who have purchased the $30 membership share by time of meeting are eligible to vote.
