Sat., Oct. 17 - Gabriola Island Power and Sail Squadron is pleased to announce that we will be doing our annual shoreline cleanup at Twin Beaches Park from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm. Volunteers are welcome to attend and participate.

Sun., Oct. 18 - An elephant will walk the 10K Brickyard Beast. Brin Jackson, dressed in an elephant costume, taking part in The Enormous Elephant Run for the DSWT (David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.) Goal is to raise $1000 to help support the orphaned elephants, the keepers, vets and aerial surveillance. Brin will be at the Folklife Village 10-11 am on Sat. Oct. 17.

Mondays starting October 19 - Intentional Aging. Exploring the path from Senior to Elder. This is an 8-week program from the Gabriola Arts Council Healing Power of Art Program with Kayte Summers, Registered Drama Therapist and Maggie Mooney, Registered Clinical Counsellor. Thurs., Oct. 22 - The Beautiful Miller and The Mountain Maid. Barbara Ebbeson –mezzo soprano and Alison Nishihara – pianist perform Schubert’s “Die Schöne Müllerin” and Grieg’s “Av Haugtussa”, a  pairing of some of the world’s most beautiful music. Sung in german and norwegian. Come and enjoy these two gorgeous song cycles written 100 years apart, with two beautiful maidens, two handsome men, two broken hearts and a stream. 7:30 pm at the Phoenix Auditorium (at the Haven). Sat., Oct. 24 - GaLTT’s Trans Gabriola Trek. Walk with Gabriola Land and Trails Trust guides on the Trans Gabriola Trek, Saturday Oct 24th. Parking at Silva Bay will be available on the water side of Silva Bay Inn. Starting at Silva Bay Resort at 10:00 am, walk through the centre of the island, mostly on trails, to Surf Pub by 3:00 pm, to enjoy refreshments, snacks or a meal. The Gertie bus will deliver walkers back to their cars, by donation, please to help cover the cost, leaving the Surf Pub at 4 pm and again at 5 pm. Wed., Oct. 28 – Twilight Radio Theatre – Live Radio Dramas, starring Tina Jones, Chris Jans, David Botten and Kathy McIntyre, at the Surf Lodge. 7:30pm. Sat., Oct. 31 - Halloween Fireworks! Brought to you by the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department Firefighters’ Association. 7:30 PM. Gabriola Sands (Twin Beaches) Provincial Park. Donations received in the firefighter boots at many Gabriola businesses help cover the cost of the fireworks and are gratefully accepted
