Thurs., Oct. 3 - Gabriola Garden Club meeting with guest speaker Grahame Ware on the topic of Daffodils. Grahame is passionate about Daffodils and will discuss how to grow them, how to start them from seed and surprise us with some varieties we might not be familiar with. Meetings take place at the Rollo, doors open at 6:30pm and the meeting begins at 7pm.

Thurs., Oct. 3 - Gabriola Reads. A Community Literary Conversation. Five books. Five champions. One winner: Gabriola’s first-ever Battle of the Books features five Gabriolans defending the book they believe is the Quintessential Canadian Novel. Sheryl McKay, arts-lover and host of CBC Radio’s North-by-Northwest, will be host and referee for the evening. All books are for sale at Pages Marina & Bookstore and available at the Gabriola Library. Sponsored by Friends of the Gabriola Library. 7 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Fri. & Sat., Oct. 4 & 5 – Purple Kush’n Funk Unit. Dig out your platforms and start teasing your fro. Gabriola’s own 11 piece funk unit will be tearing the roof off the Skol Pub. 9:00pm. Tix $15- from North Road Sports. 

Sat., Oct. 5 - Death Café at the Library. 1-3 pm. A Death Café is a group-directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives, or themes. Free, but space is limited. Please visit or call the library at 250-247-7878 to sign up.

Thurs., Oct. 10 - Coming Home Films presents The Boat. 7pm at the Roxy. This is a benefit screening for the Gabriola Auxiliary for Island Health Care with award winning filmmakers Beverley Reid and Peter Kellington. Admission by donation.

Thurs., Oct. 10 - Come watch the All Candidates meeting from Nanaimo at the GAC office (former WI). It will be on screen at 7 but doors open at 6:30.  Please plan on coming to the Gabriola Community Hall for the All Candidates Meeting on October 5, but if you miss that one here is another opportunity to hear all the candidates answer questions. It’s our chance to take part in the democratic process. Thank you to GAC for making the the space available.

Sat., Oct. 19 - Children Have Feelings Too: Fostering Emotional Awareness and Expression in Young Children. 11 am - noon at the Library. Lynda Archer (author and clinical psychologist) and Kathy Gurr (kindergarten teacher) will explore how adults can help young children know what they are feeling and why that is important for their social, emotional and educational development.
