Thurs., Oct. 23 - Poetry Gabriola Open Mic, with guest Kathleen Miniely, fresh from the 2014 Canadian Spoken Word Competition. 7-9 pm, doors at 6:45 pm - by donation.

Fri, Oct 24 - Coffeehouse at The Haven with Gordon Carter,  gifted songwriter, guitar player from Cumberland, sings about roots & heritage. Doors 7, Open Stage 7:30, Feature 9.

Fri., Oct. 24 and Sat., Oct. 25 - Gabriola Players present a staged reading of “12 Angry Men” at the Rollo Centre. Shows at 7pm on Oct. 24 and at 2pm and 7pm on Oct. 25. Tickets $12 available online at gabriolaplayers.ca or at North Road Sports.

Sat., Oct. 25 - Harvest Country Dance with Nathan Tinkham and Friends. Net proceeds for the Gabriola Auxiliary for Island Health Care. Doors open at 7pm. Dance 8pm to 12am. At the Community Hall. Tickets $15 at the GABE Shop or at the door. Cash only for the Grub and Booze Bars, Art Auction, and the 1/2 and 1/2 draw.

Sat., Oct. 25 and Sun., Oct. 26 and Sat., Nov. 1 - The Canadian Firearms Safety Courses will be offered on October 25 and 26 for Non-restricted (longguns) firearms and on November 1 for Restricted (handguns) firearms. 8am to 4pm. Cost ($100 +$40). Programme required for owning, buying or inheriting firearms. Call Imelda at 2502478801 for information/registration.

Tues., Oct. 28 - Gabriola Arts Council Annual General Meeting. WI Hall | 476 South Rd. 7 pm: Meeting and Election of Directors. 8 pm: Visioning Conversation. Share your ideas and dreams for the future of the WI Hall, and help come up with a new name. Members in good standing can vote. Fri., Oct. 31 - Halloween Fireworks. Brought to you by the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department Firefighters’ Association. 7pm at Gabriola Sands (Twin Beaches) Provincial Park. Donations received in the firefighter boots at many Gabriola businesses help cover the cost of the fireworks and are gratefully accepted.

Sat., Nov. 1 - Woman’s Institute Fall Sale. 10am – 12pm at the W. I. Hall. Bake table, knitting, books, and some White Elephant items.

Sat., Nov. 1st - The Gabriola Ratepayers have reserved the Community Hall to host a local government election all-candidates forum at 2pm. Setup at 1:30.

Sun., Nov 2 - Daylight Saving Time Ends. Turn clocks back an hour at 2am.

Sat., Nov. 15 - General Voting Day for Local Government Elections. Voting for Gabriola, Mudge and Decourcy will be at the Gabriola Elementary School from 8am to 8pm.

Weekly Events

Tuesdays - Rides to Nanaimo are offered every Tuesday for seniors (or those on disability) by People for a Healthy Community (PHC) to the 10:05 am ferry to return on the 2:30 ferry. Call 250-325-2273 or email: resources@phcgabriola.org.

Wednesdays - Family Storytime at the Gabriola Public Library. Starts at 10:30am.

AA meets at the WI Hall on South Road every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Also meets on Fridays at noon. For more information contact 250-753-7513.

Fridays - The Gabriola Performing Arts Foundation wants your thoughts about the resources available to the performing arts community on Gabriola.  Please drop into “Upstairs at Robert’s” between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday afternoons until November 28.

Narcotics Anon - Gabriola meetings are Mondays at 8 p.m., lower level of the Commons.

Sat,. Nov. 15 - Jingle Bells Craft Fair @ the Gabriola Golf Course. 10am - 3pm.

Sat., November 22 - The AGI Association Christmas Fair will be held from 10 am - 4pm at the Community Hall. Note: This fair changed dates to Nov. 22 from the previously advertised Nov. 29.

Sat., December 6 - Gabriola Elementary School PAC Craft Fair. 10am - 4pm at the Elementary School.
