Mon., Oct. 6 - Gabriola Soccer Association AGM. 7pm upstairs at Roberts.  All Welcome.

Tuesday Oct. 7: Life drawing sessions @ Rose Crystal Studio. Starts 10am - 12 noon. $12 drop-in, $40/4 sessions.

Tues., Oct. 7 - Meeting of those interested in off-leash and fenced dog park. Welcome to all. 7pm in the meeting room above Roberts Restaurant.

Wed., Oct. 8 Special Meeting of the Gabriola Fire Protection improvement District to elect a new Trustee. 7:30pm at Fire Hall #1 on Church Street. The purpose of the meeting will be to elect a member of the public, a registered land owner in the Improvement District and a Canadian Citizen 18 years or older,  for a vacancy on the Board of Trustees, to fill the remainder of a term of  approximately 2 years (April 2016).

Sat., Oct. 11, Sun., Oct. 12 & Mon., Oct. 13 - 18th Annual Gabriola Studio Tour. 10am - 4pm. 54 Studios, more than 60 artists. 14 new artists. Pick up a brochure at locations around Gabriola or download from Hosted by the Gabriola Arts Council.

Wed., Oct. 15 - Suicide Prevention: Creating New Conversations. A workshop with the Vancouver Island Crisis Society. Organized by Sustainable Gabriola’s Mental Health and Substance Use Working Group. 9-12pm at the Women’s Institute Hall. All are welcome to this free event. Sat., Oct. 18 – Join George Szanto for the launch of his latest novel, Whatever Lola Wants.  2 p.m. at the Gabriola Library.

Sat., Oct. 18 - GaLTT trans-Gabriola Trek. Trail walk from Silva Bay to Descanso Bay, rain or shine. Leave Silva Bay at 10am. Leave Tait Road, near North Road at roughly 12.10, lunch break in 707-acre Park. Leave Tin Can Alley at North Road at roughly 2.20. Arrive Skol Pub at roughly 3.50pm. GERTIE Bus will make two runs back to Silva Bay from the Skol Pub, leaving at 4pm and 5pm

Fri., Oct. 31 - Halloween Fireworks. Brought to you by the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department Firefighters’ Association. 7pm at Gabriola Sands (Twin Beaches) Provincial Park. Donations received in the firefighter boots at many Gabriola businesses help cover the cost of the fireworks and are gratefully accepted.

Sat., Nov. 1st - The Gabriola Ratepayers have reserved the Community Hall to host a local government election all-candidates forum at 2pm. This is a tentative date, pending approval of candidates.

Sun., Nov 2 - Daylight Saving Time Ends. Turn clocks back an hour at 2am.

Weekly Events

Gabriola Visitor Information Centre on Taylor Bay Road. Open for Thanksgiving Weekend, October 11-12-13, 10am – 2pm. Email

The Gabriola Museum is open for weekends and Thanksgiving Monday, 11:00-3:30pm. Located on South Road just west of Lockinvar Lane.

Tuesdays - Rides to Nanaimo are offered every Tuesday for seniors (or those on disability) by People for a Healthy Community (PHC) to the 10:05 am ferry to return on the 2:30 ferry. Call 250-325-2273 or email:

Wednesdays - Family Storytime at the Gabriola Public Library. Starts at 10:30am.

Saturdays - Gabriola Farmers’ Market: Open every Saturday until Thanksgiving Weekend at the Gabriola Agi Hall. Open to the public at 10am (wait for the bell) until 1pm. Dogs permitted if on a leash. Drop-in vendors: please arrive before 8:30am and speak to Daryl about a space.

AA meets at the WI Hall on South Road every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Also meets on Fridays at noon. For more information contact 250-753-7513.
