Thurs., Oct. 10 to Mon., Oct. 14 - Gabriola Arts Council Studio Tour. Launch Party Thursday night. 

Thurs., Oct. 10 - Coming Home Films presents The Boat. 7pm at the Roxy. This is a benefit screening for the Gabriola Auxiliary for Island Health Care with award winning filmmakers Beverley Reid and Peter Kellington. Admission by donation.

Thurs., Oct. 10 - Come watch the All Candidates meeting from Nanaimo at the GAC office (former WI). It will be on screen at 7 but doors open at 6:30.  Please plan on coming to the Gabriola Community Hall for the All Candidates Meeting on October 5, but if you miss that one here is another opportunity to hear all the candidates answer questions. It’s our chance to take part in the democratic process. Thank you to GAC for making the the space available.

Sat,. Oct. 12 - Public rallies across the country will be held to pray the Holy Rosary for World Peace. At 12 noon. A rally has been organized on Gabriola by members of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church and members of St. Peter’s Church, Nanaimo. Gather at the corner of North Road and Lockinvar on this day and at this time. We hope that as many people as possible will join us to pray for a cause which affects us all: World Peace.

Wed., Oct. 16 - Family Movie Night. 5 pm at the Library. It’s movie time! We’re showing a family-friendly movie on our big screen, complete with popcorn! This month’s movie is Cars 3. Free, drop in event. Everyone welcome.

Wed., Oct. 16 - Film. Viva Cuba. 7pm at The Roxy. 10-year-olds, Malú and Jorgito, are in love, but their mothers (from different social classes) disapprove. Malú’s mother plans to leave Cuba, separating the friends, so they run off to the other side of the island to persuade Malú’s father to help her stay in Cuba. Charming and heartfelt. Thurs., Oct. 17 - Come to The Roxy and share Moira and Dennis’s journey, “The Camino de Santiago:  A Walk to the End of the Earth.” Doors open at 6:30. Presentation at 7:00. Admission by donation.

Fri., Oct. 18 - Calling All Batologists. Growls presents Gabriola’s Bat Expert Vanessa Craig at the Roxy. 7pm. Admission by donation. Learn about Bats; bat research in BC; the challenges facing BC Bats; and how you can help.

Sat., Oct. 19 - Children Have Feelings Too: Fostering Emotional Awareness and Expression in Young Children. 11 am - noon at the Library. Lynda Archer (author and clinical psychologist) and Kathy Gurr (kindergarten teacher) will explore how adults can help young children know what they are feeling and why that is important for their social, emotional and educational development.
