Sat., Sept. 19 - The Gabriola Ratepayers All-Candidates Forum, with candidates running in the 2015 Federal Election, will be held at 2pm at the Gabriola Island Community Hall.

Sat., Sept. 19 - Save Our Shores presents Coastal Tarsands: Journey to Deleted Islands, a breathtaking film by Richard Boyce​ who journeyed by kayak ​along BC’s northern coast​ where Enbridge ​wants to send hundreds of supertankers loaded with millions of barrels of ​b​itumen ​every year. Join us to watch the film and meet the filmmaker. Rollo Centre​, 7 pm​. ​Admission by donation.

Sat., Sept. 19 - Gabriola Auxiliary for Island Health Care Harvest Gala featuring Nathan Tinkam and his band. At the Surf Lodge. This is the Auxiliary’s largest fundraiser of the year! Tickets $25 at GABE Shop. Gabriola Auxiliary teamed up with GERTIE Shuttle. 7 pm at the village, North Road to Silva Bay, South Road to Harrison Way then Twin Beach to the SURF. Return: 11:30 pm.

Sat., Sept. 26 - Save Our Shores presents 3 documentaries which deal with climate change. 10:30am Chasing Ice. (Global warming impact on polar glaciers); 1pm: Gasland (the problems with fracking for LNG); and at 3:15: The Future of Energy. (alternatives to fossil fuels)

Sat., Sept. 26 - La Familia is an 8-piece Latin Dance Band, guaranteed to get you up and dancing! Silva Bay Restaurant, 9pm. With an awesome horn section and classic latin riffs, this is the way to end the summer! Tix $15. Available at Silva Bay and the Old Crow Café.

Sat., Oct. 10 to Mon., Oct. 12 - Gabriola Arts Council Thanksgiving Studio Tour. Gabriola Island—the “Isle of the Arts”—has the sixth highest concentration of artists in Canada. While every day is a celebration of art on this lush and lively island, on Thanksgiving weekend the festivities reach dizzying heights. Island artists throw open their studio doors to tempt your senses with dazzling arrays of art! On October 10–11–12, the studios of sixty artists will be open for visiting and viewing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Head to for more details.
