Tues., Sept. 18 - The Friends of the Library will return a 1742 Bible, a book sale donation, to the family’s Australian descendants. Please join us at the Gabriola Public Library at 11 a.m. for this celebration of a fascinating story.

Thurs., Sept. 20 - The Cult of Brother XII. A Musical Dark Comedy written by Bill Miner. Come to the Phoenix Auditorium at The Haven for an evening of hilarity and toe tapping tunes ... full entertainment package! One show only! 7 p.m. Tickets $15 at Artworks. By popular demand, this wildly entertaining new musical which played to sold out shows during the recent Fringetastic Festival in Nanaimo is being performed one last time on Gabriola at The Haven. Sun., Sept. 23 - The Nanaimo branch of the Old English Car Club is having a classic car run on Gabriola. Members of the public will be able to view the cars on the lawn at Silva Bay from approximately 1:30-3:30 p.m. For registration for the run email mfrog@shaw.ca.

Fri., Sept. 28 - Coffeehouse at the Golf Club featuring - The Ukuladies. 6:30 p.m. jam band. 7 p.m. open stage. 9 p.m. feature. The Ukuladies quartet has been charming Duncan area audiences for over 3 years. They love to play and sing swing, oldies, Hawaiian, pop and folk tunes.

Sun., Sept. 30 - Poetry Gabriola Society Open Mic. Rising like a Phoenix from the ashes of summer holidays, the Poetry Gabriola Society Open Mic will be hosting a special event to kick off its monthly open mic events. 7-9 p.m., doors 6:30 p.m. Old Crow Café. 7-7:45 p.m. open mic for all spoken word artists, poets, storytellers and readers. 8-9 p.m. Special Guest – Clea Roberts, Yukon.

Sat., Oct. 20 - Gabriola Bandstand. Dig out your bobby socks because the Thanksgiving Studio Tour and the Gabriola Arts Council are bringing you an island style sock hop at the Surf Lodge! Dance classes 7-8 p.m. with Gwen Spinks. Sock Hop 8-11 p.m. Live music with Rock Through the Ages, food, costume contest, fun and frivolity. Stop by the Tour Booth at Street Art or Artworks to grab your tickets before they sell out!

Mondays - Sunset Paddle with Silva Bay Kayak Adventures. At the Silva Bay Inn dock. 6:30-8:30 p.m., $20 or free if B.Y.O.Boat! All ages. Come out and enjoy paddling around the Flat Top Islands in a social and fun format, while catching spectacular sunsets from out on the water! No experience necessary! 250-247-8939.

Wednesdays - Gabriola Walking Group. 10:00 a.m. Everybody welcome. Dogs only on a leash. Most walks are 1.5 to 2 hours in duration. For more information call 250-247-9990.
Sept 26 - Park at Silva Bay, walk to Drumbeg and return.
Oct 3 - Park at Windecker, walk trails in and around Elder Cedar forest.
Oct 10 - Park at Gabriola Sands (Twin Beaches) for walk on trails around Cox Park.
Oct 17 - Park at Community Hall for NEW WALK- Coast to Coast from Shaw Road to Whalebone waterfall and return. This will be 2+ hours in length.
Oct 24 - Park at Rollo field for walk to Orlebar Point and return.
Oct 31 - Park at end of Tansy for "spooky" walk in the 707.

Thursdays - Live Music at Woodfire! New Time: 7-9 p.m. Enjoy the talented and ever popular duo of Amber Handley and Brad Shipley as you feast on the delightful flavours of Woodfire. Reservations recommended. Call 250-247-0095.

Saturdays - Workbees at the Commons. 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. To do: many ongoing things around the Commons. Bring: gloves, shovel, hand trowel, other tools you find useful.

Saturdays and Sundays - Fall hours for the Gabriola Museum: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sept. 4 through Thanksgiving.

AA meets at the WI Hall on South Road. Every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Also meets every Thursday at 8 p.m. and Fridays at noon. For more information contact 250-753-7513.

Mondays - Al-Anon is a mutual support program for people who are currently, or have been, affected by someone else’s drinking. Meets at 7 p.m. at the WI Hall. For info call 250-325-2747.

Upcoming Festivals and Events 

October 5 to October 8 - Annual Thanksgiving Studio Tour from the Gabriola Arts Council. www.gabriolaartscouncil.org/.

October 31 - Annual Fireworks show at Twin Beaches. Hosted by the Gabriola Firefighters Association. Look for the rubber boots at local merchants to appear in October to contribute towards the show. Hot dogs, Hot Chocolate and bonfire.

November 17 & 18 Agi Association Christmas Craft Fair

December 1: Gabriola Elementary School Christmas Craft Fair

December 1: Gabriola Commons Craft Fair
