Thurs., Oct. 4 - Regular Monthly Meeting of the Gabriola Garden Club with Jeff Rietkerk, the “Island Arborist” as guest speaker. 7:30 pm at the Agi Hall. There will also be a short talk on Fire-Smarting your property. Commonly referred to as a ‘tree-squirrel’ or part-monkey, the ‘Island Arborist’ prefers to be called Jeff. He’s passionate about modern tree care practices. Jeff is also an avid birder, gardener and dedicated nut tree farmer on Gabriola’s south end. If he isn’t trying to talk you out of removing a wildlife tree from your backyard, he’s probably extolling the virtues of adding a nut or mulberry tree to your traditional apple, pear and plum orchard. His presentation, entitled “Living with Trees” will illustrate the good, bad and ugly aspects of working with trees.

Fri., Oct. 12 - Sign up day for the Christmas Craft Fair at the Gabriola Elementary School. Sign-up is from 9 to 10 am in the school multi-purpose room. Upcoming Festivals and Events
October 31 - Annual Fireworks show at Twin Beaches. Hosted by the Gabriola Firefighters Association. Look for the rubber boots at local merchants to appear in October to contribute towards the show. Hot dogs, Hot Chocolate and bonfire.
November 17 & 18 Agi Association Christmas Craft Fair: The Gabriola Agricultural Association is holding their annual Christmas Fair at the Community Hall on November 17-18, 2012. Anyone interested in booking a space for the Fair, please contact Tannie Meyer at firstname.lastname@example.org or, if no access to e-mail, call 250-247-8216 between 9am and 9pm.
