Gabriola Arts Council

Press Release

Wednesday, October 9 2019

The 23rd Annual Thanksgiving Studio Tour is just around the corner. The big news is that Tour Central, including the Tour Kick-off celebration, has changed location to the space traditionally known by artists and art-lovers for being a prominent gallery, music and meeting space.

Join us at Tour Central and Preview Gallery - now at Village Arts Space in Folklife Village - on Thursday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m., where tour artists will be on hand along with artwork from almost every artist on the tour.

Snacks, refreshments, live music and excited artists - please join us for this annual celebration of local art and artists. Tour Central will be open all weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 pm. with informed volunteers on hand.

Throughout the weekend, 97 Gabriolan artists in 82 studios - more than ever before - will host hundreds of visitors. With 27 new artists on the tour this year and many returning and veteran tour artists, the Annual Studio Tour on the “Isle of the Arts” highlights the cultural, social and economic importance of art and creativity on the West Coast while showcasing extraordinary and exciting works of art. Who knows, maybe one of these artists is your neighbour and you’ve been wondering what they’ve been creating inside their studio? This is the perfect excuse to pay a visit. Take this opportunity to meet Gabriola artists up close and to learn more about them and their work.

Check out for a complete list of artists and studios, and to download a detailed tour map. You can pick up a printed brochure at various locations around the island.

The Studio Tour has been a huge success since its inception in 1997. Gabriola boasts the sixth highest concentration of artists in the workforce in Canada, and every year more artists move to this creative island and call Gabriola home. The Gabriola Studio Tour includes artists working in many media: ceramics, glass, photography, acrylics, watercolour, silver, unique jewellery materials, illustration, basketry materials, leather, diverse sculpture matter, mixed media, textiles, wood and more.

Tour Kick-off celebration - Thursday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m.

Tour dates: Saturday, October 12 to Monday, October 14, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
