Gabriola Chamber Ensemble

Monday, November 4 2013

Join us Saturday, November 9, at 5:00 p.m., or Sunday, November 10, at 3:00 p.m., at the Gabriola United Church, as the Gabriola Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Leah Hokanson, presents, “Tradition!” - A Slightly Unorthodox Celebration of World Folk Music. The concert will feature Gabriola’s own Afro-Cuban drummer extraordinaire, Voodoo Dave McGrath.

Pack your bags for a musical globe trot that will feature folk-inspired classical music by Mozart and Vaughan Williams for orchestra; beautiful and unique arrangements by our own Mitch Levine of some beloved traditional songs; spirituals and hymn tunes; and the world premiere of Steve Smith’s amazing genre-mingling rendition of the traditional Senegal song, “Kaki Lambe!”

Tickets are $15 and available at the door. Children 10 and under get in free with an adult. For more information please contact Sue Gould at 250-247-2034 or email See you at the concert!

Now in its 15th season, the Gabriola Chamber Ensemble is an eclectic group of singers and instrumentalists who share a love of classical music. We perform three concerts per year, including the ever-popular Cool Messiah (traditional and “funky takes” on Handel’s Masterwork - coming December 14 and 15).

We are always open to new members, so if you have some musical experience, and if you love classical music too, please contact Leah Hokanson at
