Gabriola Spinners and Weavers

Monday, June 25 2012

Yes, that’s right, we’re now in a more convenient location at the Rollo Centre. This central location provides easier access to everyone interested in joining us with our exciting projects.
Thanks to Jean McLaren and Bob Weenk’s helpful supervision and muscles, our move was easy and painless. A special thanks to Vern for providing the truck and moving all the heavy stuff, and the guild members who helped pack, load and unpack.
Now that we’re at the Rollo Centre, we meet every Thursday except the fourth Thursday of the month. Our meetings run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. With this kind of access we can now offer more workshops to the community to help bring other spinners and weavers into the fold.
Besides spinning and weaving, our members explore new horizons with all fibres including working with felting, silk fusion, surface design and dying all fibres to name just a few. Our intent is to encourage, educate and learn as much as possible. Those who have ever thought about getting into any of these activities are encouraged to come join us.
We will be holding two special half-day beginners weaving workshops the first two Thursdays in July. The workshops start at 9 a.m. and will run until 12 p.m. All materials and equipment will be provided. There will be a cost of $15 that includes both half days, use of the equipment and all materials.
If you wish to join us for the workshop please call Grace Sayers at 250-247-2022 by June 26 to register.
