Third Bio-Mapping Day at Commons

Covenant Team

Gabriola Commons

Tuesday, September 8 2015

Visit the Gabriola Commons for part of Sunday, September 20 and “Adopt a Polygon” of your very own!

It will be the third seasonal Bio-Mapping day – all day.

You may have heard that the 26 acres have been divided into manageable “polygon ecosystems” to facilitate detailed description in preparation of a future Baseline Report and Covenant.

Please come for whatever part of the day you can, and help observe the flora and fauna of late Summer/Fall. Guidance and forms on which to record your observations will be provided, as will refreshments all day and lunch.

Members of the Covenant Team will be stationed at the Timber Frame Building (look to the right as you leave the parking lot).

Dawn and dusk are as important as mid-day, so there will be orientation “start times” at 6.00 AM, 10.00 AM, 1.00 PM and 4.00 PM.

Team members will review data collection to date, provide maps and directions – and help you pick your polygon. Maybe bring binoculars, camera/mobile phone, etc. and be sure to dress for the weather and some rough terrain.

It’s been wonderful to look closely at the land and observe as many species, vegetation and natural life as possible – but ALL help is welcome, no matter your knowledge level or expertise.

See you there on September 20.
