Mark Anderson and Michelle Mares, both world class solo pianists have joined forces to form the piano duo, DuoCorde. They follow in the footsteps of past famous piano duos joining both their personal and professional lives. 

Mark Anderson:  A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, pianist Mark Anderson’s recordings and performances have met with widespread critical acclaim. Since his successes at the 1993 Leeds (U.K.) and 1994 William Kapell (U.S.) International Piano Competitions, Mark Anderson has appeared frequently as recitalist, soloist and chamber musician. He has performed in Japan, throughout much of Europe and Great Britain, Ireland and North America.

Mark Anderson is Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia School of Music and is owner and Executive Director of New World Music Academy in Pleasanton, California. Mr. Anderson is a Steinway artist.

Michelle Mares: A Gabriola favourite, Michelle Mares began her musical studies at the age of 4 as a student of the Suzuki Piano Method when the Vancouver Academy of Music was in its infancy. She amassed a great deal of performing experience as a child prodigy and drew the attention of many notable musicians, including András Schiff, Ivan Moravec and Gaby Casadesus.

She has lead an active performing career in both Canada and Europe spanning the entire repertoire as a soloist and chamber musician. She has performed with virtually every major orchestra in Canada as a soloist and her performances have been heard regularly on national and international radio broadcast. 

Michelle is currently settled in Vancouver, BC with her 2 children and her partner, Mark Anderson with whom she performs frequently as a piano duo. She is a popular guest adjudicator at music competitions including the Knigge Competition and numerous regional festivals. She is also a regular master teacher at the Victoria Summer Piano Academy. In her teaching, she draws from a deep reservoir of musical, professional and life experience.
