Theft at PHC

In the early morning hours of April 5th, a window was wrenched open, a thief entered the building, and two computers were stolen from our beloved social service agency, People for a Healthy Community. PHC Food Programs Coordinator Debi Brummel was first on the scene that morning, and immediately called the police, who are still investigating.
Luckily, three things will help PHC recover from this theft: almost all of the data was backed up, there is very little confidential information stored on those computers, and PHC recently received donations of computers from New Society Publishers and E-Vons Computer Solutions. These computers were not in the building. PHC will see a loss of most email files and some recent work but very littleloss of other electronic files.
Unfortunately, the loss will cost time and money. A security system will need to be installed. Replacement computers need to have operating systems and software installed. They also need to be networked together and with the printer. PHC staff need to reassemble files from back-ups, other people's computers, and in some cases start over again. This takes time away from food programs, from volunteer recognition (April 25th is PHC's Volunteer Appreciation day!), and from fundraising efforts to purchase a refrigerator, new desks and a cargo van.
PHC is taking steps to safeguard their operations from future break-ins, but until then they ask the community for donations of food, goods (as above) or funds to help them recover from this theft. Contact People for a Healthy Community at 247-7311.
