Needles at the Village a “Dangerous Prank”
Port Alberni Bust with Gabriola Connection
Gabriola RCMP
Monday, March 1 2010

Back in September 2009, Gabriola Island RCMP began to hear of syringes being found near the large rocks around the back of the Village Market, and in the public washrooms. The syringes are a standard style commonly used by diabetics with a cylindrical smooth orange cap which covers the needle itself. Enquiries with the local pharmacy revealed that the syringes being discovered were entirely different than those dispensed at that location.

Initially it was just syringes being found. In October and November, syringes began to turn up with a substance inside them, and some of the syringes were uncapped. Several of these Syringes were sent off for analysis by the RCMP. The results of that analysis indicate that the substance inside is not an illegal drug.

The past week has seen up to four more syringes being discovered in very obvious places around the back of the Village Market. These syringes contain a sticky red liquid similar to cough syrup. It is now believed that a silly and dangerous prank is being conducted.

The Gabriola Island R.C.M.P. are very much concerned for the safety of the public, and would like to identify the person or persons responsible for discarding these syringes in such a dangerous and careless manner.

Anyone with information regarding those responsible can either contact the Gabriola RCMP Detachment at 250-247-8333, or Crimestoppers.

Port Alberni Bust with Gabriola Connection

On February 18, 2010, Port Alberni RCMP contacted Gabriola RCMP and informed them that the owner of the Gallagher Way property where Gabriola RCMP located an indoor Marijuana grow operation on January 15, 2010 had been arrested after the execution of a Search Warrant at his residence in Port Alberni which revealed a very large indoor Marijuana grow operation. Charges of Production of a Substance and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm are pending.
